IndyFurCon Panels – So you want to be published?

Posted on by Krista
We’re going to be running a pair of panels at IFC in a few weeks. It’s a basic introduction on stepping from hobbyist to being professional. Whether you want to strike out on your own and be self published or approach another organization for the sake of being published through them. The panels cover both writing and art because a lot of these items apply to both sides of it. The panel is split across 2 days. Some of the stuff we’ll be covering:

So you want to be published? (Part 1)
- Self publishing vs a Publisher, benefits of each.
- Printing vs Publishing vs Distribution…what are the differences?
- How to approach a publisher, do’s & don’ts.
- Getting others to review your portfolios, or stories.
- How to present and conduct yourself well at conventions.
- How to protect yourself and your intellectual property.

So you want to be published? (Part 2)
- Writing: How to get started, stay motivated and be objective.
- Art & Comics: Knowing when to restart and when to push through.
- It’s a business, how to make a living from what you do.
- Question & Answer period.
- Get feedback: Present your portfolio or story pitches for constructive criticism.

If there’s anything else you’d like us to make sure to include, let us know!
